ISLAMABAD:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak censured the energy sector policies of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Saturday, saying it had done no service to the nation by producing electricity at exorbitant prices.
Talking to reporters at the K-P house in Islamabad, Khattak responded to the ruling party’s criticism of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf by pointing out his own government’s work in the energy sector. “We have initiated work on an 1,800MW power plant,” he said. A day earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said that the country’s power crisis would not be solved by ‘burning bills or standing on containers’ in what was understood to be a reference to PTI.

Responding to criticism of not having mega projects under his belt, the K-P chief minister said that “meritocracy, zero tolerance against corruption, transparency and provision of justice are my achievements, which are not as visible as Metro buses.” “We are delivering what we had committed,” he added.
Saying that he is in constant touch with PTI chief Imran Khan to ensure if the party’s government in K-P was living up to its promises, Khattak asked if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had ever bothered to ensure he was doing the same. “Does he [Nawaz] ever look back and wonder whether the PML-N govt is fulfilling the commitments it made with the people?”

The K-P chief minister also claimed that local government elections in all provinces other than his own were an ‘eyewash’ as no powers had been devolved to the grass root level.
