DI KHAN:
Armed extortionists lobbed a hand grenade and opened fire on a brick kiln near Dabara, Tank on Saturday.
According to a police official, Amish Gul, owner of Dervish Bhatta – a brick kiln in the district – had been receiving threatening phone calls from extortionists for a long time.
“Since Gul refused to fork up the amount, the extortionists lobbed a hand grenade at the kiln,” he said. “It was partially destroyed.”
Remaining steadfast
Talking to The Express Tribune, an acquaintance of Gul, requesting anonymity, said, “Gul had received several phone calls from extortionists who demanded Rs1 million from him. He blocked the number.”
However, soon after, one of the extortionists came to Dervish Bhatta and asked the watchman to inform Gul to unblock his number.
“The extortionist also sent a letter to Gul threatening to kill him if he failed to pay the amount,” he said. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
