TIMERGARA:

A prisoner accused of murdering a police official committed suicide in Timergara District Jail on Saturday morning.

According to an official of Timergara police, 24-year-old Izharuddin, who hailed from Bishgram area of Madyan, Swat, hanged himself with his shirt from a ventilation window.

“Officials at the prison rushed to inform the jail superintendent,
Attaullah Khan about the incident,” a police official told The Express Tribune. “But by the time he got there, Izharuddin was dead.”

The jail superintendent sent the inmate’s remains to District Headquarters Hospital Timergara for a post-mortem and later handed them over to the deceased’s family.

While talking to the media, Attaullah said Izharuddin was charged last year for murdering a police official and was still under trial. “The final verdict had yet to be issued by the court,” he said.

He assumed that Izharuddin might have committed suicide due to severe mental stress. “Further investigation is under way,” he added.
