Re-exa[mine]: Ziaullah files for interim bail
It questioned how a department can make arrests, investigate and file references before it is established
PESHAWAR:
Former mines and mineral development minister Ziaullah Afridi has filed for interim bail with the Peshawar High Court and challenged the workings of the Ehtesab Commission (EC). The petition was filed by his lawyer Barrister Mudassir Ameer on Monday who nominated the provincial government and EC director general as respondents. Afridi, through his petition, said the establishment of the commission was announced through a notification on September 14, 2015 while the EC had already started arresting people in June. “Besides, it is clearly mentioned in the EC Act that the appointment of the commission’s DG will be carried out by its members. However, the provincial government, in brazen violation of the law, made his appointment,” said the petition. It questioned how a department can make arrests, investigate and file references before it is established.
