HARIPUR:
The foundation stone of an eagerly anticipated and much-needed trauma centre at Women and Children Hospital Haripur was laid on Sunday. Adviser to Chief Minister on Communication and Works Akbar Ayub unveiled the plaque at a brief ceremony attended by select doctors and PTI workers.

District Headquarters Teaching Hospital Haripur Medical Superintendent Dr Zakim Khan Wazir said the building of the trauma centre would be completed within a year at a cost of Rs59 million. He added the 20-bed trauma centre would be part of DHQ Hospital which had been bearing the expenses of the Women and Children Hospital for the last decade.

After the completion of the trauma centre, Wazir said all orthopaedic, cardiac, general surgery and emergency situations would be treated in Haripur instead of being referred to Abbottabad.

The medical superintendent said the trauma centre would have a state-of-the-art mortuary, two operation theatres and as many wards for men and women. He said the government approved a sum of Rs200 million for the reconstruction of a multi-storey building at the Women and Children Hospital.
