Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the government had been taking comprehensive steps to enable the nation to overcome the challenges confronting it.
He was speaking to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) officials. Shahbaz said the scourges of terrorism, religious extremism, sectarianism and the energy short fall had adversely impacted the national economy. He said the national economy had rebounded due to the comprehensive policies of the government and the nation’s foreign exchange reserves had exceeded $20 billion. The chief minister said the pace of industrial development had picked up and business activity in the nation was increasing. Shahbaz said the transparent policies of the government had been yielding positive results.
The chief minister said increasing investment was a reflection of the confidence reposed by citizens as well as foreigners in the government’s policies. He said promoting investment to curb poverty and eradicate unemployment was the need of the hour. The chief minister said the government had been striving around-the-clock to put the nation on the road to progress and prosperity. He expressed hope that it would soon gain its rightful place in the comity of nations.
Separately, Ahle Hadith supremo Sajid Mir called on the chief minister. The chief minister said the war against terrorism was at a decisive stage. He said the war had been waged to rid the nation of terrorism. The chief minister said anti-state elements and their sympathisers would find no sanctuary in the nation.
Shahbaz said the National Action Plan against terrorism was being effectively implemented. He said the plan epitomised the nation’s resolve to eradicate religious extremism and terrorism. The chief minister said effective steps were being taken under the plan in the Punjab.
Shahbaz said all political forces had to play a positive role to ensure that the nation overcame the challenges confronting it.
The chief minister stressed the importance of brotherhood, tolerance and patience among citizens. He said it was incumbent on everyone to strive for peace to be established and promote brotherhood as national unity was the need of the hour.
