KARACHI:
The city needs the construction of the abandoned Southern Bypass to overcome traffic problems and divert heavy traffic from roads, which are creating trouble to commuters and posing danger to their lives, said traffic DIG Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh on Saturday. He said that the earlier project of Southern Bypass envisages an alternative intercity route from Karachi Port Trust to National Highway, which might reduce the burden of commercial vehicles including dumpers, trucks, water tankers and other heavy vehicles. Amir said that traffic issues of Karachi are not new but it is increasing due to the high rate of vehicles’ registration in the city. The authorities need to find out solutions to traffic problems of the city on urgent basis, he added.
