PESHAWAR: At least two people died after consuming substandard medicine distributed during a medical camp set up to control malaria in Akhorwal area of Darra Adam Khel on Friday night.

Local elders told The Express Tribune that 14-year-old boy Amir and a 55-year-old Syed Rehman died.

Meanwhile, four people, including two children, fell sick and were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC).

“The medical camp was organised to administer medicines to people were suffering from malaria in the village,” one of the elders said. “Although two people have died, the relevant authorities are reluctant to take action.”

Political Agent Frontier Region Kohat Zahir Shah said only person died after consuming substandard medicine while another person was in critical condition.

“Four others are in stable condition,” he said. An enquiry has been ordered into the incident.
