Abide by these air travel etiquettes for a pleasant journey

Ease air travel for yourself and your co-passengers by following some basic etiquettes, says an expert. Here are some tips to keep in mind when traveling on a plane, as suggested by IANS.

Dos

1. Wait after takeoff before reclining: Reclined seats are the only thing in an airline where one can get a few inches of extra leg room. Do your backseat neighbour a little favour by waiting a while before reclining.



2. Stay calm and polite: Sometimes children tend to become a nuisance on long flights and hit/ kick the seat in front. While you may be tempted to lash out at the child, refrain from doing so. Instead, kindly stand up and politely ask the adult to control the child kicking at the back of your seat.

3. Packing travel essentials: Pack all your essentials in clear plastic bags. This will help security with their check and keep them from having to open your bags and go through your belongings.

4. Carry necessary travel documents: Make sure that you have all of your travel documents before leaving home. This includes airline tickets or boarding passes, passports (if required), and a valid government issued photo identity card. Keep them with you at all times.



Don’ts

1. Do not be grumpy: When traveling, delays are inevitable. Yelling at the airline staff and being rude to fellow passengers will only serve to cause a stir and produce nothing fruitful. It’s best to stay calm and co-operate.

2. Abide by the luggage limit: There is a reason why carry-on luggage is limited. Taking three shopping bags of food and 50 shawls for each family member will not only cause you problems when stuffing in the overhead compartment but also be a problem for other travelers. Keep it limited to one or two bags at the most. It’s rude to take up someone else’s allotted space.



3. Playing loud music: Entertainment can be a bit tricky when you’re up in the air. However, playing loud music in an enclosed place with numerous people within earshot tends to become irksome for most. Try to lower the volume to the lowest possible without being a bother to your neighbours.

4. Questionable items: Avoid packing questionable items in your luggage; it’ll save you and security the trouble. If you are not sure of a particular item, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
