Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) secretary Ahmed Qayyum had filed a petition saying that challenges to environment could not be dealt with in the EPC’s absence. He said clean drinking water and air were basic human rights. He said it was mandatory for the EPC, formed two years ago, to hold at least two sessions a year but it had not arranged any session. He had requested the court to direct the government to make the council functional. The court ordered that EPC be made functional in two months. It then disposed of the petition.
