KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah cancelled on Friday the allotment of 300 acres reserved for Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) near Malir River.

"KMC was asked to reclaim the land and use it for civic purpose," said the CM House spokesperson. "But it violated the agreement".  This is why CM has cancelled the allotment of the land, he added.

KMC land director Shehzad Ahmed said that he was not aware as to why the allotment had been cancelled. "I have recently taken over charge of my office so I have no idea regarding the issue," he said.

The cancellation of the order is a part of Sindh government's initiative to cancel the allotment orders of the land given to various people inside Malir River, said an official source. "Earlier, the CM had disapproved his government's decision to allot land for the MPAs residence scheme," said an official. "Apart from this, the land allotted to journalist housing society inside the river has also been cancelled."  Several summaries are pending before the CM and more cancellation orders will be issued soon, the official said.  The land was given to various people by either revenue department or deputy commissioners under Section 17 of the Colonisation of Government Lands (Amendment) Act 1912, he added.

"Strict action is now being taken due to the raids conducted by Federal Investigation Agency and National Accountability Bureau at various government offices," said the source. Sindh government has assured NAB officials that all illegal allotments will be cancelled, the officer added.
