A village defence committee member was gunned down by militants in Kanju, Swat on Thursday. Noman Khan, a Kanju police official, said the incident occurred in Damghar village.
He said the lashkar member, Zubair Shah, was en route to the market when unidentified militants shot him multiple times. Shah died on the spot while the assailants fled the scene.
According to the official, “Soon after the attack, heavy contingents of security forces rushed to the site, picked the body and shifted it to Saidu Teaching Hospital for an autopsy.” Security forces also launched a search in the area and tightened security at all check posts.
The official added the committee member had constantly been receiving threats from militants.
Meanwhile, a banned group claimed responsibility for the attack, while police filed the case against unidentified militants.
