ISLAMABAD:
Water and Power Secretary Mohammad Younus Dagha has announced that every possible step will be taken to curb power theft and other illegal activities in the area of electricity production and supply and people found involved in such acts will not be spared.

“The employees of power distribution companies involved in corrupt practices will face strict disciplinary and penal proceedings,” he said.

Dagha made these assertions in a special meeting held on Wednesday with directors of vigilance of all power distribution and generation companies.

He was displeased with the performance of vigilance directorate of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) because of inaction against theft, irregularities and other illegal activities by employees of the distribution and generation companies.

The secretary told the vigilance directorate to reinvigorate its working atmosphere and put in more efforts in order to play an effective role in improving the system.

He also called for streamlining work at the organisation in line with modern trends and engaging unconventional sources like media for strict vigilance of the power sector.

He issued directives for integrating the reporting channels of vigilance teams deputed at operational circles of the distribution network and told the managing director of Pakistan Electric Power Company to take strict action based on reports of the vigilance staff.
