Terror on the roads: Over a dozen killed in six road accidents

Three members of a family died in a road accident in Jhang Saddar police precinct on Tuesday.


Police said Naseem Bibi, 45, Muhammad Asghar, 50, and their 11-year-old daughter Shama were travelling on a motorcycle on Jhang-Toba Tek Singh Road near Hassan Shah village when their vehicle collided with another motorcycle. Naseem Bibi and Shama fell on the road and a speeding car ran them over. Police said they died on the spot. The car drove off.

Bilal, 40, and his wife who were on the other motorcycle were badly injured. Asghar, and Bilal and his wife were taken to the Jhang district headquarters hospital where Asghar succumbed to his injuries. Doctors treating Bilal and his wife said their condition was critical.

Police said the two motorcycles had collided and the passengers had fallen off the bikes, however, it was the car that did the most damage. They said the car had the licence plate LEA-556.

Near Chunian, two people died and 10 people were injured after a tractor-trolley and a coaster collided on Changa Manga Road, Gillanwala, near a petrol station. Police said the tractor driver drove away. Nadeem Akhtar and Khalid Shah, who were in the coaster, succumbed to their injuries. Police said they had registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) .

In Sargodha, three people died and four people were injured in a road accident in the Kirana police precinct. Police said seven members of Hayat’s family, residents of Block 10, Sargodha, had gone down to River Chenab on a rickshaw for a picnic. The family was returning home when a speeding dumper truck hit the rickshaw near Lallian. Shehnaz Bibi, Hayat’s wife, their daughter Shumaila and Imran, the rickshaw driver, died on the spot. Shahid, Abdul Rahim, Abdul Wahab and Shehreen were injured and taken to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. Police said they have registered a case against unidentified people.

In Sheikhupura, two people died and more than 30 people were injured in a collision between a tractor-trolley and a passenger bus. Police said the passenger bus had left Islamabad for Lahore. The driver had dozed off near Khanqah Dogran and rammed the vehicle into a tractor trolley. Two people died and 30 were injured in the collision.Police said they had registered a case against the bus driver.

In Chishtian, a man and his son died in a collision between a speeding rickshaw and a motorcycle in Farid Kot, Chak 110, on Tuesday. Police said Khair Muhammad and his son Asad were seriously injured and taken to Bahawal Victoria Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

In Sialkot, three members of a family died in a road accident near Qila Kalarwala, Pasrur, on Tuesday. Police said Muhammad Anwar, a trader, his wife Hazur Bibi and their nephew Ali Raza were going to Pasrur on a motorcycle when an overloaded tractor trolley hit their vehicle near Qila Kalarwala. The three died on the spot.
