KARACHI: It seems that Jalaibee director Yasir Jaswal is gripped by nostalgia as he has returned to the studio to hone in on his singing chops after nearly half a decade. Even before Jaswal had shot to fame as the filmmaker behind the crime-caper released earlier this year, he had made a name for himself in the underground music scene of Islamabad as the frontman of rock group Irtash and later, as the vocalist of Call after Junaid Khan’s departure.

According to Jaswal, most of the songs he’s now recording were written by him during his time with Irtash but were unable to see the light of day. “They were supposed to be my own singles but I got caught up with other things. Plus, the band disbanded later so they remained unreleased,” he said. As part of Irtash, he recorded singles, such as Kaali Raatein and Khauf, and an album titled Kala Safaid Aasmaan at large.

Despite returning to the studio after long, Yasir isn’t in a rush to release his songs and wants to gauge the audiences’ interest before putting his singles out. “I’m a bit unsure about this and will decide at the time of release whether I should release the tracks only in audio format or if they merit a video,” he added.

Of his career as a director, he stated he was currently in the process of brainstorming ideas and will hopefully finalise one by December. “I’m developing two ideas and will see which one appeals to me more before my next film hits the floors next year.”
