KARACHI: An alleged kidnapper, rapist and killer was sentenced to death on two counts and imprisoned for life on the third charge by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday.
The accused, Sher Khan, kidnapped a five-year-old girl from his neighbourhood, raped and killed her within the jurisdiction of the Clifton police station.
When the girl went missing, Khan joined in with the residents to ‘look’ for her and to protest. In fact, it was he who led the police and protesters to the place where the girl’s body had been abandoned. The police became suspicious and detained him for interrogation, during which he confessed to the crime.
On Wednesday, the ATC bench, headed by judge Syed Hasan Shah Bokhari, gave the final verdict in the case and sentenced him to death on charges of kidnapping and murder and ordered him to serve a life term on the charge of raping the child.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs0.2 million, out of which Rs0.1 million will be given to the girl’s family as compensation money.
The counsel for the accused said he will file an appeal against the judgment because it was delivered in haste.
