Eu markets: Stress laid on Kinnow exports

Pakistan’s trade offices in European countries could help overcome this problem by coordinating

KARACHI:
Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Standing Committee on Horticulture and Food Exports Chairman Ahmad Jawad stressed on the slogan ‘easy to peel’ as he talked about Pakistani Kinnows being exported to the European Union (EU). He said Pakistan citrus has an insignificant share of 0.09% in the EU, while in the sub-category of mandarin and clementine Pakistan has a market share of 0.04%. “Despite the disadvantage of having seeds, Kinnow has the potential to penetrate the EU provided a consistent long-term strategy is implemented,” Jawad added. In the ethnic market segment, he said, the availability of Kinnow needs to be increased. Currently, supplies are intermittent, and a regular demand-supply pattern is not established. “Pakistan’s trade offices in European countries could help overcome this problem by coordinating with importers to stagger their shipments during the entire season.
