DI KHAN:
Residents of Tank city launched a demonstration against unsteady power supply and prolonged outages on Tuesday.
A rally began at Pir Sabir Shah Ziarat and after passing through different bazaars, culminated at Kashmir Chowk. The road linking the area with South Waziristan Agency was blocked for all kinds of traffic for about an hour. The protesters chanted slogans against electric supply companies and the government. Led by local NGOs Daman Shehri Tanzeem and Tank Welfare Society, the attendees said Tank is the only district in the entire province that witnesses power outages for 18 hours every day. They demanded the government provide electricity to the area through the Gomal Zam Dam which is located nearby.
On the other hand, Peshawar Electric Supply Company Tank XEN Asad Jan Miankhel told the media extremely low recovery of bills is the reason behind the prolonged outages. “People here are in no mood to pay the bills on time. Until this is resolved, there is little that can be done.”
Payback time
Action against defaulters has already been initiated in Paharpur, DI Khan. The area’s feeder in charge, Hadayatullah, said several illegal connections have been removed in Band Kurai and Metta Pur. “A letter has already been sent to Pesco police station in Dera for legal action.”
