Army chief approves death sentence of nine terrorists

Bajwa says those awarded penalty involved in targeting LEA personnel, sectarian killings and attack on Gen Sanaullah

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif approved on Monday death sentences for nine “hardcore” terrorists involved various attacks, including the killing of law enforcement agency personnel in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and sectarian killings in Mastung.

The terrorists were also involved in attacks on a mosque in Noshera and on Major General Sanaullah and Colonel Tauseef, Director-General of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa tweeted. One terrorist was given life imprisonment, he added.

On September 2, five ‘hardcore terrorists were awarded death sentence by the military courts, according to an ISPR statement.

They were involved in the killing of an advocate in Lahore, sectarian killings in Quetta, targeting of police officials in Gadap, Karachi, breaking of Bannu jail, attack on a girls school in Khyber Agency and attack on a polio team in Khyber Agency, the ISPR had said.

Similarly, the army chief confirmed death sentences for seven terrorists on August 13. They included those involved in the massacre at the Army Public School in Peshawar in December last year.
