Happy birthday, Kareena! Here's a look at her illustrious career
Well, isn't Bebo simply amazing?
It's Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor’s 35th birthday today! While she enjoys her birthday bash at husband Saif Ali Khan’s family home in Pataudi, we look at her journey through her years in Bollywood since her debut in 2000.
Kareena made her debut with the film Refugee in 2000 alongside Abhishek Bachchan, and won the Filmfare award in the Best Female Debut category.
Following this success, five movies featuring her were released in the subsequent year including Yaadein with Hrithik Roshan, and Asoka with Shah Rukh Khan. This was also the year she appeared in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham with Shah Rukh and Hrithik and her character “Poo” became insanely popular.
The following two years were not that great for her as her films Jeena Sirf Merre Liye, Khushi, and Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon bombed at the box office. Kareena was even criticised for hamming in these movies.
But she bounced back soon. Kareena won the Filmfare Award for Special Performance for her role in Chameli and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for Dev in 2004. She also starred in the comedy Hulchul in the same year, showing her versatility as an actress.
But it was her character in Jab We Met -- the bubbly Geet -- which really turned the tide for her in 2007. No wonder that she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and our hearts, with her brilliant performance in the film.
The following year Kareena was criticised for her poor choice of films which included Tashan and Golmaal Returns. But she was quick to silence her critics with her performances in Kurbaan and 3 idiots. Kareena was again nominated in the Best Actress category for the Filmfare awards for both these roles.
Following the success of 3 idiots, Kareena became the most sought after actress in Bollywood, with all leading Khans -- Shah Rukh, Salman and Amir -- wanting to cast her in their films. Her film with Salman, Bodyguard, was a hit, but the one with Shah Rukh, Ra One, bombed at the box office.
Heroine was supposed to be her comeback as a leading actress, but it too failed. Consequentially, she was relegated as just a pretty face in the industry, appearing in item songs like Fevicol Se in Dabangg 2.
This year Kareena has been seen in the blockbuster film Bajrangi Bhaijaan alongside Salman Khan, and she has also been shooting for two more films.; Ki and Ka with Arjun Kapoor and Udta Punjab alongside Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Let's see if she is able to reclaim her position as one of the leading actresses on the big screen!
