PM arrives in UAE to condole son of Dubai ruler's demise

PM House says premier will personally extend his condolences with Shiekh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum

ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Dubai on Sunday on a one-day visit to condole the death of the son of the Gulf emirate’s ruler.

“The premier will personally extend his condolences with Shiekh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai,” a PM House statement read.

“PM Nawaz will return to Islamabad tonight after a short visit,” the statement added.

UAE’s Minister for Culture, Youth and Community Affairs Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and the Minister of State for Financial Affairs Sheikh Obaid Humaid Al Tayer received the prime minister and his delegation at the Royal Airport, Dubai.

He is accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and adviser Tariq Fatemi.

Dubai announced a three-day mourning period on Saturday after the 33-year old son of the Gulf emirate's ruler passed away.

Sheikh Rashid, son of the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, suffered a heart attack on Saturday morning.

He was the eldest son of Sheikh Mohammed. Rashid's brother Sheikh Hamdan is the Crown Prince of Dubai.

Following his death, the premier and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief and sorrow over the demise.
