KARACHI: Former head coach and chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan on Thursday called for cleansing and accountability in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"I appeal to Patron In Chief of PCB to launch an inquiry into the affairs of the board and for presence of tainted coaching staff in Pakistan team and in Pakistan Super League (PSL)," he told reporters at a news conference at the Karachi Club Hall.

He added that, "PCB should have waited for a good time to launch the PSL in Pakistan instead of choosing Qatar as the venue."

He praised the Army and Security forces for their sacrifices in improving the security situation and restoring peace in the country and paving the way for return of international cricket in Pakistan.

Mohsin Khan had also hit out at the PCB last year after he was overlooked for Pakistan's chief coach.

He also referred to Justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum report which fined six players following a judicial inquiry into match-fixing launched in 1998.

Mohsin, who guided Pakistan to a historic 3-0 rout of the then world number one side England in 2012 as chief coach, accused PCB of inducting 'tainted' players.

Mohsin supported the role of departmental cricket in Pakistan and said a specific lobby was trying to undermine its contribution. He recalled that legendary Pakistan captain and board head Abdul Hafeez Kardar launched departmental cricket which hugely benefitted national cricket.

‘Tainted trio doesn’t deserve second chance’

Mohsin was also of the view that the trio of Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt should not be inducted in Pakistan team.

“For the betrayal and damage Amir, Asif and Salman have done to the country, they should be banned for life,” he said.

However showing leniency, Mohsin Khan said they should be allowed to play domestic cricket to earn their bread and butter.

He questioned that what kind of message is being delivered to the youth of the nation by allowing these cricketers to play for Pakistan again.

He said he had always played cricket for his country with great pride and integrity.
