Terror threat: Govt to setup special search and rescue teams

Channar said Rescue 1122 offices would be operational in Bahawalpur division’s tehsils by next year

The government will constitute special urban search and rescue teams in all the nine divisions of the province.


This was revealed at a meeting held on Thursday. Bahawalpur Commissioner Division Saqib Zafar chaired the meeting.


“The decision has been taken in the aftermath of the Attock attack. Each team will have 50 persons to cope with emergencies. Rs500 million will be spent on the project,” Divisional Emergency Officer Asif Rahim Channar told the meeting.


Channar said Rescue 1122 offices would be operational in Bahawalpur division’s tehsils by next year. “The Rescue 1122 service is being started in Yazman, Khairpur Tamewali, Chistian, Haroonabad, Manchanabad and Fort Abbas tehsils. This project will cost Rs130 million,” he said.


He said that special arrangements were being made for the safety of the educational institutes in Bahawalpur division.
