Zardari’s address: ‘Good governance in Punjab owes to PPP’

Bilawal informed about the mastermind behind Benazir’s assassination, says Zulfiqar Mirza.

NAUDERO:
President Asif Zardari has said that if Baitullah Mehsud is the killer of Benazir Bhutto he is no Pakhtun but representative of a certain thought. “If he is no more alive today, we have not killed him,” he said, adding that the slain leader (Benazir) had not given us the lesson of blood for blood.

Speaking at a huge gathering at Naudero to mark the third anniversary of Benazir’s assassination, he said “I can visualise Benazir standing beside me…she is asking me ‘what have you done Asif?’” He said, “I am telling her that I have been serving as a guardian of whatever she had entrusted to me. It’s almost three years that I have been holding aloft the flag passed on to me by her”.

He said that “we don’t trust the UN commission report into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. “The report did not cover the ground it should have,” he declared.  Referring to the party’s relations with PML-N, Zardari said the PPP had successfully convinced the PML-N to take part in elections when it had actually decided a boycott and had then removed Pervez Musharraf, just the way PML-N had wanted.

The president said good governance in Punjab was possible only because of the PPP, adding that the PML-N should now have no problem.

He categorically said that the present PPP-led government will complete its mandated five year tenure and pledged to hold the next general elections in a fair and transparent manner to take the process of democracy forward.

“Today I declare from Garhi Khuda Bakhsh that your government will complete its five years. And I also pledge that the (next) elections would be fair and transparent, so nobody can raise an (accusing) finger,” he said.

He said that according to the slain leader’s guidelines he was taking along the coalition partners. He advised the political actors to show some responsibility.

“We will create a new Pakistan as we saved it by raising the slogan of ‘Pakistan Khappay,’” the president said.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, his sisters Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Asifa Bhutto Zardari, were also present in the rally which was also attended by federal ministers, provincial ministers, senators, members of national and provincial assemblies and PPP rank and file from across the country.

Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said that he knew who were the elements behind Benazir’s assassination.

Speaking to the media in Ghari Khuda Bux, Mirza said that Benazir Bhutto’s son, Bilawal Bhutto had been made aware of these developments and after consultations, all the details of the case would be made public.
