The Sindh Abadgar Board has criticised the agriculture relief package announced by the prime minister, stressing that support price for commodities was the actual requirement.
Falling commodity prices have led to huge losses for the country’s agriculture sector. Keeping that in mind, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on Tuesday, announced a Rs341-billion relief package for farmers to be implemented in different phases. It would include cash subsidies as well as measures to reduce input costs.
However, the Sindh Abadgar Board crticised the package, saying that instead of announcing the support price of different yields, the government has announced a relief package, which is only seen as an attempt to win local government elections.
