HYDERABAD:

Thatta police have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in swindling the poor beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

The Chato Chand police seized 600 BISP cards, over a hundred National Identity Cards, cheque books of various banks and Rs300,000 cash from the arrested suspects, in a raid on Sunday.

"They used to exploit poor, illiterate women by offering their services as voluntary help, but in reality they either took commission or stole from their money," said SHO Majid Ali Pechuho. The SHO identified the arrested suspects as Rasool Bux Samo, Bilawal Mughal and Abdul Majeed Jokhio. Hundreds of the card holders reached the police station after hearing about the arrest to get back their cards and money. Several women complained to the police against the suspects. SSP Fida Hussain Mastoi formed an investigation committee, headed by ASP Raja Bisharat. Although the case falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Investigation Agency, the relevant officials have not taken up the case yet.
