A district and sessions judge on Saturday granted bail to an eight-year-old who had been arrested from a tyre shop where stagnant water was found during an inspection. The judge also summoned the district environment officer.

Mubarak Ali, the child’s father, had moved the bail application. Ali said his son was a student of class three and a daily wage worker at the tyre shop in Lodhran. He said last week, the Environment Protection Department had raided the shop and found stagnant water in old tyres.

He said the EPD had moved a complaint against his son and police had registered an FIR against him under Sections 269, 278, 268 and 270 of Pakistan Penal Code.

Ali said his son was not responsible for the violation.

“The owner of the shop should be arrested, not his child apprentice,” Ali said.

The judge granted bail to the boy and summoned the environment officer.
