Conflict resolution: Bouncing on your guests

Security staff beat up a diplomat, his companions at a party.

ISLAMABAD:
A diplomat and his younger brother were badly beaten up by more than ten bouncers at a local restaurant on Saturday night.

A secretary-level diplomat, of the Embassy of Afghanistan, visited Majlis restaurant located in Blue Area for dinner along with his younger brother and a friend.

It is not clear why, but the group went into verbal brawl with some men who were also attending the party. The event was organised by Colonel (Retd) Masood, a resident of sector F-11. It was not clear as to what provoked the fight. However, the hotel administration quickly stepped in when the two parties started throwing punches.

Police said some 10 to 12 bouncers of the hotel, instead of separating the two groups, started beating up the diplomat and his companions. The diplomat fell unconscious after receiving some heavy blows from the bouncers. His younger brother also suffered injuries.

“It was not a serious matter. However, the bouncers had taken it a little too serious and some of them were even drunk,” said the diplomat while talking to The Express Tribune.

“Kohsar Police have registered a case against some 13 bouncers of the hotel and two of them have been arrested so far,” a police official said. However sources in the police said the two parties were making efforts for a patch up.

The Station House Officer (SHO) Kohsar Police Station Hakim Khan said that an advisory had been issued to all hotels and restaurants in Blue Area. “We have asked them to inform the police station about the number, and kind, of New Year parties and functions they were going to hold so that adequate security measures could be taken,” Khan said.
