LONDON:
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has pulled out of the England squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday because of injury, it was announced Monday.

England are seeking a win which would put them top of Group E but must do without Carrick, an unused substitute in Saturday's 6-0 away rout of minnow San Marino.

However, the exact nature of the 34-year-old's injury was not disclosed.

The 33-times capped Carrick has not played for England since March's draw in Italy and, as a result, has missed the last three matches.

United play bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
