QUETTA:
Security forces thwarted an attempt to sabotage Defence Day celebrations and arrested four suspects along with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and arms from Kechi Baig near the Sariab area of the provincial capital Sunday morning.

According to security officials, intelligence sleuths identified the presence of militants after carrying out a combing operation between the Kechi Baig and Burma Hotel localities of Sariab. Acting on the tip-off, security personnel picked up the four suspects and recovered IEDs and weapons from their possession. They were plotting a terrorist attack on the Defence Day, sources said.

After years of subdued celebrations, the entire province was in an unusually festive mood on Sunday. The military has set up an arms and armaments display at the city’s largest sports stadium.

Security sources said that foreign funded terrorist organisations often try to target occasions highlighting Pakistani nationalist fervour.

Militant held in Turbat

The Frontier Corps Balochistan arrested a suspected militant belonging to a banned organisation from Turbat. “The search operation was carried out following a tip off,” the FC spokesman said. However, the spokesman did not reveal the name of the militant or identify the outfit he belonged to.
