A three-day polio eradication campaign will begin in Dera Ghazi Khan district on September 14, DCO Nadeemur Rahman announced on Sunday.
He was addressing a meeting of district officers with regard to the polio vaccination drive.
He said 1,378 teams had been constituted to go door-to-door and administer drops to 532,901 children under the age of five years. “Tight security for polio teams will be ensured,” he said. The police, the border military police and the Baloch Levy among other law enforcement agencies will be involved in ensuring security in the district.
Rahman said doctors and health workers must work together to end polio virus from the country. “It is our duty to save the children of our country from this disease.” He urged prayer leaders to play an active role in raising awareness regarding polio vaccination.
He said the government was playing a positive role in eradicating the virus. Hundreds of children will be vaccinated during the campaign for the time, he said. “Their registration is already complete.”
Participants of the meeting were told that 1,195 children of nomads had been registered for the anti-polio vaccination.
ADC Mahboob Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Asghar Majeed Baloch, Abdul Ghafar Khan, ASP Shahbaz Elahi, Health EDO Munawwar Abbas, DOH Abdur Rahman, Livestock DO Muhammad Munir, and Deputy District Officers Khaleel Ahmad, Kamran Asghar and Jalal Ahmad; Kaleemullah Tahir of the UNICEF and DMS Khalid Tahseen attended the meeting.
