LAHORE:
Cases filed earlier than 2010 will be decided till December, 24 this year, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik said on Saturday.
He was addressing court associates, secretaries and personal assistants at the Punjab Judicial Academy. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC, Punjab Judicial Academy Director General Justice (r) Chaudhry Shahid Saeed, Registrar Tariq Iftikhar Ahmad, Committee of Management Chairman Attaur Rehman and Additional Registrar Riaz Ali Zaidi were also present.
“A target has been set for deciding all the cases filed before 2010 by the end of the current year,” he said.
He said that it was the judiciary’s responsibility to provide timely justice to the people. “No hurdle will be tolerated in the provision of justice to the masses,” he said.
The LHC chief justice said that no case would be adjourned for an indefinite period starting after September 7.
“Justice should not be delayed. It should be impartial and according to the law. Our objective is to provide timely justice to the petitioners. The court staff assists the judges in this purpose,” he said.
Justice Malik said that no case could be left indefinitely pending under the Case Management Plan. “From now on, stern action will be taken against the court associate if a case is left over. In order to improve this process, data entry operators will be posted in all courts. The process for recruiting them has been started,” he said.
The LHC chief justice said that a department could only function successfully if its entire staff performed their duties effectively.
He praised the efforts of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah in bringing reforms. “Justice Shah has worked hard to improve the organisational structure of the high court. He has also made efforts for the promotion of court staff,” he said.
He said that all the judicial officers of the high court had been posted in the field to provide justice to the people of the province.
“A management committee has been formed to look after the administrative affairs of the court employees. The registrar is heading the committee. Court employees can now expect to be promoted to grade 21 during their service. We have given to court employees their rights. Now, we expect them to make all efforts to fulfill their responsibilities in the best possible manner.
They should try to minimise the problems facing petitioners. This will strengthen the people’s confidence in the judicial systems,” he said.
