Hidden WhatsApp feature will reveal your closest friends
App will rank your contacts and groups according to the amount of interaction with each person and group

WhatsApp has added a new hidden feature which allows users to inspect their data usage to reveal who they converse with the most.
The app will now display the total amount of WhatsApps sent at the top of the page, and rank contacts and groups via the amount of interactions shared with a particular person or group.
Using the ‘storage usage’ function which can be accessed by pressing ‘settings’ then selecting ‘account,’ users can access the total number of messages sent.

The function can also reveal to the user which conversations take up the most amount of space in their phone using the ‘size’ tab.
Further, deleting threads that are taking up too much memory in the phone will free up space which can be viewed by pressing the refresh button.
However, the tool has only been made available for iOS users so far. Android users can only see the total number of messages sent and some information on data use.

The update was introduced with WhatsApp update 2.12.3 in June, designed originally to inform users how much space each chat is taking up on their mobile phone.
Last month, WhatsApp, rolled out its web service for iPhone users, allowing them to send and receive messages not just on their phones but also on their computers.

“Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone,” the company said in a blog, announcing the new feature.
However, on a downside if the phone is not connected to the internet at all times, the conversation will be dropped and all of the users’ messages will remain on the phone. Further, the web option as reports suggest works on both Mac and PC and is also open to phones using Windows, Google, Blackberry as well as Nokia operating systems.
WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook in February 2014 for $19 billion and boasts more than 800 million users worldwide.
