Images of a Syrian toddler surfaced across social media this week as he lay lifeless on a Turkish beach after a migrant boat capsized while trying to reach the Greek island of Kos. 

Although the migrant crisis has been ongoing for several years, it was the image of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi that got the world talking about the issue, with several urging governments to take urgent action.
