FAISALABAD:

Two people were shot dead over an old enmity in the Khurarianwala police precinct on Wednesday.

The police spokesperson told journalists that Bashir Ahmad, son of Munshi, and Amanat Ali, son of Ghulam Muhammad, both residents of Chak 99-RB, Jandiala, were shot dead on their way home from a board-making factory where they worked near Chak 100-RB, Rurka. Police said Ahmad and Ali had died on the spot.

Their relatives gathered on Khurarianwala Road and blocked it for traffic. The bereaved beat their chests and mourned the deaths. The protesters said that Ahmad and Ali had been killed by the family’s rivals over an old enmity and demanded that the police arrest the murderers without delay.

A police contingent led the Khurarianwala SHO arrived at the scene and tried to placate the protesters. He assured them that the suspects will be arrested as soon as possible. The protesters then called off the demonstration and dispersed.  The police have taken the bodies to a mortuary for post-mortem examination.

In a separate incident, Asad Nawaz, a resident of Chak 216-RB, shot dead his 25-year-old sister for ‘honour’.

Police said the woman was married but Nawaz had accused her of having an extramarital affair with one of their neighbours. Police said he had accused his sister of bringing ‘shame’ to the family name. After killing his sister, Nawaz went to the Khurarianwala police and surrendered. He also handed over the murder weapon.
