Reviews progress on reconstruction work in tribal belt

Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan said a monitoring mechanism should be devised to enhance transparency and effectiveness in various departments in the tribal belt.
This was stated in a handout issued on Tuesday. According to the document, Mehtab was speaking during a meeting with UNDP Pakistan Director Marc-Andre Franche.
“It is the need of the hour to devise a strategy to implement key reforms,” read the statement. “This includes the monitoring and evaluation of development programmes.”
According to the handout, the governor said concrete steps have been taken for the implementation of reconstruction and rehabilitation plans for the displaced population.
“The tribespeople of Fata have rendered sacrifices for peace and prosperity in the region,” the handout quoted Mehtab as saying. “The time has come to take steps for the welfare of the tribal people. I strongly urged the international community to come forward and assist development projects in the tribal belt.”
The way forward
During the meeting, the governor reviewed progress on reconstruction work in Fata before the displaced population returns home. “The government is determined to produce good governance,” the document quoted Mehtab as saying. “We plan to give special priority to education, health, economic development in the tribal belt.”
According to the handout, Mehtab said suitable steps will be taken to implement effective reforms. “Reforms will be futile without proper monitoring and evaluation mechanisms,” stated the handout. “The result of implementations should be visible.”
Strategic support
During the meeting, Franche spoke about the strategic support unit which can assist administrative work at FATA Secretariat. “The unit will improve efficiency and streamline the effectiveness of various departments,” the handout quoted him as saying.
The UNDP country director vowed to assist the government in implementing structural reforms for the betterment of the tribal people.
