Holding accountable: 22 corruption cases to be lodged against govt officials

Twenty-two cases will be lodged against more than eight government officials and 90 open inquiries will be initiated at local government, works and services, irrigation department, excise and taxation, population, livestock and labour departments.
This was decided during the anti-corruption committee (ACC) meeting on Monday, chaired by chief secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon.
Five cases have been registered in local government, four in home, six in works and services, five in irrigation department and three in excise and taxation, said the officials. The committee has also given approval to arrest these officials without delays.
Anti-Corruption and Establishment chairperson Mumtaz Shah said that a case has been registered against Karachi Development Authority sub-registrar Zafar Baloch, and executive engineer Amir Bhatti for selling the plot of a deceased person.
ACC has also ordered to register a case against Zafar Baig Mughal, Liaquatabad former town officer, and his four other employee for transferring property on forged documents that cost Rs1.8 million to the legal heirs. Another four separate cases have been registered against Tharparkar education department officials for embezzling Rs1.2 million.
A case has been registered against Khawand Bux Junejo, former taluka nazim Hyderabad and town municipal officer (TMO), for misappropriating Rs0.7 million.
