KARACHI:

The deputy managing director of Ziauddin Hospital was picked up by personnel of a law enforcement agency on Saturday.

Dr Yousuf Sattar was present at his office in the North Nazimabad campus of Ziauddin Hospital when law enforcers picked him up and took him away to an undisclosed location. Witnesses claimed that personnel in Rangers vehicles and uniforms were behind his apprehension. "At least two Rangers mobiles arrived outside the hospital at around 1pm," said an official of the hospital who witnessed the incident. "At around 2pm, four men, three in uniform and one in plain clothes entered Dr Sattar's office where they spent at least fifteen minutes before taking him away with them."

There were some unconfirmed reports that the officials also examined documents and data in the administration and IT department. There was, however, no official confirmation in this regard. "You cannot call it a raid. They just came and took him away with them in a respectful manner in a jeep - not a patrolling vehicle," explained a witness. Dr Sattar has been associated with the Ziauddin Hospital for the last fifteen years.

Sindh Higher Education Commission chairperson and former petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain, is already in the Rangers' custody for 90 days.
