LAHORE: Prof Muhammad Aslam on Wednesday took caretaker charge of the office of the vice chancellor at the Government College University (GCU) Lahore following a notification issued by the provincial government for the purpose.

The notification also mentioned appointment of Dr Aminud Din as the acting vice chancellor of the University of Education (UoE). Dr Din, the UoE Dera Ghazi Khan campus principal, is yet to take charge of the office.

In a press statement, Dr Aslam said he had chaired a meeting of heads of academic and administrative departments following his appointment on Wednesday. He said the meeting had discussed problems faced by the departments due to the absence of the vice chancellor since July 24.

A UoE spokesperson said they had received the notification. He said Dr Amin would take charge of the office as soon as he arrived in the city.

The government had advertised vice chancellors of vacancies at ten universities. These were GCU Lahore; UoE; Lahore College for Women University (LCWU); University of Sargodha; Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan; Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Rawalpindi; Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur; The Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan; Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Information Technology, Multan; and Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology, Rahim Yar Khan.
