FAISALABAD:
Nishatabad police have registered a murder case against eight people including Saba Sultana, an international kabaddi player, her father Abdus Sattar, her brothers Abdus Salam and Bilal, and four other relatives. They are accused of murdering Malik Imran, a resident of Chak 5-JB, Kamalpur.
Complainant Nasir Farooq, Imran’s brother, said his brother used to drive a rickshaw in Kamalpur and was going out with Sultana. He said the two had had a spat over a laptop that Imran had lent Sultana, but they had sorted out their issues.
“On August 18, Sultana asked Imran to meet her at her house. When he arrived there, she called her family members. Her relatives shot at Imran but he ducked behind Sultana and she was injured,” Farooq said.
Imran escaped but Sultana’s relatives chased him and cornered him in a field where they shot him, he said. “They wanted to finish the job but several people gathered there so they told them that he had shot himself.”
Madina Town SP Jameel Zafar told The Express Tribune that Nishatabad police had previously registered a case against Imran for breaking into Sultanas’s house and shooting her. Now they have registered a case against Sultana and her family. “I am monitoring the investigation of both cases…we will do our best to make sure that justice is done.”
On Tuesday, Imran’s relatives held a protest demonstration in front of Allied Hospital demanding that the police register a case against Sultana and her family. They had blocked Jail Road for traffic and shouted slogans against the police. A police officer had visited the protest and assured them that they would register a case.
