Army chief approves increase in number of military courts for Karachi

In a bid to speed up trials of outstanding terror-related cases in Karachi, Army Chief General Raheel approved on Tuesday an increase in the number of military courts for the metropolis.
According to an Inter Services Public Relations statement, the army chief was briefed on the latest security situation during his visit to Karachi.
Commending all ranks of Rangers, police, intelligence agencies and the people for significant improvement in the city’s security, General Raheel handed equipment worth Rs65 million to Karachi police for enhancing their capabilities.
Further, the army chief directed the authorities concerned to break the nexus between terrorists, criminal mafias, violence and corruption to ensure a peaceful and terror-free port city.
Earlier during the day, General Raheel visited the Yadgar-e-Shuhuda and Army Air Defence Centre in the city.
The army chief laid floral wreaths at Yadgar-e-Shuhuda and pinned badges of rank on shoulders of Lieutenant General Zamir Ul Hassan Shah and Adjutant General Pakistan Army to formally install him as Colonel Commandant of Army Air Defence.
The COAS was briefed about the ongoing training activities at the centre.
