K-p laments: 6% increase in gas tariff unjustifiable

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Board of Investment and Trade (KPBoIT) has slammed the federal government for proposing an increase in gas tariff for industries by 6% from next month. They have also termed the proposal unfair for smaller federating units, particularly terrorism-affected K-P.
“K-P has faced a number of disadvantages; it is far away from the port city and the province has suffered terrorism for the longest time,” said KPBoIT Vice Chairman and Senate Standing Committee Chairman Mohsin Aziz.
“K-P is striving to convert disadvantages into opportunities by the utilisation of its abundant oil and gas reserves along with other natural resources,” said Aziz.
He further said that earlier, the government had announced that the gas tariff would be increased from Rs100 to Rs200 mmcfd after the imposition of Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC). Now they have decided to increase the tariff by six percent from September 1. “The decision would prove detrimental for the industry.”
