LAHORE:

The government should provide security to field staff who face violence while detecting electricity theft cases, All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers’ Union (CBA) general secretary Khurshid Ahmed said on Monday.

He was addressing a meeting at Bukhtiar Labour Hall. A large number of workers and engineers of electricity distribution companies attended the meeting.

“Asad Lilian Khan, a chief engineer at the PESCO, was brutally beaten for performing his duties. Two electricity workers were murdered in Islamabad while detecting electricity theft cases,” Ahmed said. He said other electricity workers lost their lives while performing their duties due to a shortage of equipment. “Hundreds of workers lose their lives and many are permanently disabled every year in work-related accidents,” he said. He said that the government should increase generation of electricity and improve the transmission system.
