MULTAN: Saddar Police Station officials recently stopped the funeral ceremony of a woman and apprehended her husband. Police officials recently discovered that the alleged murder victim was the third wife of Munir.

Saddar Police confiscated the body of Munir’s third wife, Saba, on December 18 and sent the body to Nishtar hospital for a post mortem.

Police broke up the small gathering at the graveyard where Munir and his immediate family were digging a grave for his 18-year-old wife.

SHO Jamshed Akram said that Saba’s post mortem report confirmed that she had been murdered and that Munir was involved. The police investigation revealed that Munir’s previous wives had also been killed under suspicious circumstances.

“His first wife Shafaq, was a local homeopathic doctor and one day she just vanished. He said that she had left him and returned to her parent’s house but we never heard from her,” said Munir’s neighbour Mustafa, a resident of Hasanabad Colony.

Locals told the police that Munir had married Nadia, two months after he divorced his first wife, who died the day after the divorce. “His wife’s (Shafaq) family tried to file a case at the time but they didn’t have enough evidence and I think he threatened them,” said one of Shafaq’s friends, Naila.

Munir’s second wife, Nadia was found dead in his house a few months after his marriage and he claimed that she used to take drugs.

“Residents of the area told us that Munir used to torture her and that he also beat Saba,” SHO Akram said. “We could hear screams and cries from his house and we often asked Nadia to report it to the police but she was unwilling to bring it up,” a neighbour in Jaraianwala, Kiran said.

Locals told the police that Munir used to work at a clinic and that he used to trap female patients visiting the centre. “Apparently he met all three of his wives at the clinic and married them a few weeks later,” Akram said. Police officials said that residents of Munir’s village had said that he had abused all of his wives and that he had manipulated them into agreeing to marry him.

SHO Jamshed Akram said that Saba’s autopsy report had confirmed signs of severe torture and that the case had opened up Munir’s past record.

“We strongly suspect him to have been involved in the murder of his previous wives and we have lodged three cases against him,” Akram said.

Police officials have taken Munir in for questioning and are investigating the case.
