KARACHI:

The Sindh home department imposed a complete ban on display of arms for 90 days with immediate effect on Monday.

The ban will also be enforced upon security guards wearing plain clothes, except the members of law enforcement agencies (LEA) and guards wearing uniforms similar to police and other LEAs.

Moreover, private vehicles bearing resemblance to police and other LEAs' vehicles, with mounted police lights, tinted glasses, unauthorised blue lights and sirens, have also been banned. "This was decided by the Sindh cabinet a few months ago," said the home department spokesperson. "But it could not be implemented," he claimed. "Mostly the influential people, including elected representatives, ministers, landlords, carry these guards with them so implementation will not be easy," the official added.

"The police officers will have to stop ministers' convoys and take action," said the spokesperson.
