Integrity committee summons trio

Clearance issue likely to be decided before selectors' meeting on December 30.

KARACHI:
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Integrity Committee has summoned the suspected trio of former captain Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal and Danish Kaneria to give them a chance to come out clean before the announcement of the preliminary squad for the World Cup.

The selection committee meeting to finalise the 30-man squad would start on December 30 in Lahore with the integrity committee meeting the three players before that. The PCB, under the International Cricket Council (ICC) scanner these days, is yet to clear the trio for selection due their alleged links with bookmakers. According to a PCB official, the three players have also been asked to submit details of their bank accounts besides details of their property.

“The trio hasn’t submitted all the required documents,” said an official close to the committee. “They would not be cleared if they fail to provide information in next week’s meeting.”

The PCB delayed the announcement of the squad due to clearance matters and following its request, the ICC extended the squad deadline to January 5.
