Bad day for the bad boys

KARACHI:
At least 102 students, 98 of them boys, were caught cheating on the first day of the intermediate board examinations on Tuesday.

Monitoring teams of the board of intermediate education, Karachi (BIEK) sprung surprise visits to several exam centres and confiscated the papers of 98 boys and four girls. The procedure is to cancel the exams of the alleged cheaters and send them to the board with a seal on it. Later, the accused students and team representatives are asked to meet with board officials, when the final decision is taken. The first phase of class XI and XII exams started on Tuesday.


The candidates being tested in the first round are from pre-medical, pre-engineering, science general, home economics, medical technology, diploma and special groups. Another monitoring team, headed by the BIEK chairman Anwar Ahmedzai also visited several centres, along with media. They warned students who had brought mobile phones with them not to do so again, otherwise they would not be allowed to take their exams.

They also checked admit cards and overall, expressed satisfaction at all arrangements, including level of security. Meanwhile, in view of the government’s decision of a five-day working week, the exams scheduled for two Saturdays, May 8 and 15, will now be conducted on May 19 and 20 respectively.
