Behind bars: Moonshine maker’s bail plea rejected

Babar Ali, the petitioner, said the Chichawatni Sadar police had implicated him in a false case

LAHORE:

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the post-arrest bail plea of a suspect accused of brewing and selling illicit liquor.

Babar Ali, the petitioner, said the Chichawatni Sadar police had implicated him in a false case.  His counsel said Ali had been in prison for eight months. He requested the court to release him on grounds of compassion. The prosecution argued that Ali and one of his family members had set up a liquor distillation plant at his home. He said the police had led a raid there and had arrested him while five others had fled.
