ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has called on the government to focus on the development of the engineering sector as it has huge potential to put the country on the path of fast track economic growth.

ICCI President Muzzamil Hussain Sabri said the growth of engineering sector had dropped more than 18% during the fiscal year 2014-15, which should be a cause of concern for the policymakers.

He said engineering goods constituted more than 60% of the world trade and accounted for about 20% of India’s total exports. However, the share of engineering sector in Pakistan’s exports is just around 4%.

“Even one per cent share in global engineering trade could fetch Pakistan about $200 billion in exports,” he added.
