Screening, combing: Police arrest 43 suspects, including 28 Afghan nationals

ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad police claimed to have busted a robbers’ gang and arrested 40 other suspects including 28 Afghan nationals.

According to a police spokesperson, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Thursday busted a criminals’ gang wanted in several robbery cases and seized weapons and looted valuables from them.

The spokesperson in a statement said, a special team comprised of Crime Investigation Agency DSP Bashir Ahmed Noon, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Azam, ASPs Asif Hussain Shah, Muhammad Akram and others busted the gang involved in robberies and snatching valuables from people at gun point.

During preliminary investigation, the robbers, identified as Rafi Khan, a resident of Mohmand Agency, Nauman Naimat, resident of Taxila and Malik Yasir, resident of Islamabad confessed to have been involved in murder of a man in Sector F-10 during robbery attempt.  The robbers have also remained in jail, the spokesman said.

SSP Islamabad Sajjad Kiyani has appreciated the performance of SIU team and announced cash prized and certificates for them. He said names of good performers would be forwarded to IGP for special prizes.


Drive against Afghans

Meanwhile the Bhara Kahu and Industrial area police on Thursday arrested 40 suspects including 28 Afghan nationals for not producing any document for their identity, the spokesman said.

Bhara Kahu police conducted screening of houses, workshops, markets, under-construction buildings and residential areas in Mohalla Wazirabad, Nai Abadi and other areas.

Similarly, the Industrial Area police conducted search in Faizabad and other adjacent areas. Police commandos including lady commandos, women police also participated in operation while sniffer dogs were also used in some areas.

The teams managed to arrest 28 Afghan nationals residing illegally while 11 other suspects were also arrested.
